In 2017 the Caribbean Island of Dominica was devastated by the category 5 Hurricane Maria. La Salette Global Association (LSGA) was formed as a positive response to the destruction caused to our, once thriving but developing community. The damage caused by hurricane Maria was severe and left our community without basic necessities and infrastructure, but even worse many lives were lost.
Our community needed help to rebuild and bounce back. The group through private member donations assisted many initiatives immediately after the hurricane but pledged to continue developing our beloved community.
The 1st group effort focused on the remembrance of the many loved ones lost during the awful hurricane. LSGA donated a plaque to the village, naming and honouring all who were lost – and not forgotten. The group also donated privately to assist with small healthcare needs and has hosted several commemorative Masses and processions during the feast of Our Lady of La Salette to continue to remember the lost souls and promote togetherness in our community between 2018 and 2019. Most recently in 2020, we donated 12 ceiling fans to the St. Lukes Primary School and contributed and collaborated towards Christmas toy drive for kids.
